Butterfly Count Workshop

Learn the basics of butterfly identification with Butterfly Monarch_Butterfly_-_Danaus_plexippus_(5890526585)Expert, Pat Fojut, then enjoy a morning hike through the woods and prairie in search of our fluttery friends. Butterflies will be counted and recorded as part of our 30th Annual Butterfly Count. Butterfly data collected through this Citizen Science monitoring is published through the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) July 4th Butterfly Counts. Recommended for ages 13 and up.

Dress to be outdoors and on your feet, We use binoculars and cameras to view and monitor butterflies along the trail. We have some binoculars to lend participants.

Fees: $5 per person donation accepted for NABA monitoring

$3 Regular parking fee in effect. FREE parking for FOW Members

An optional afternoon session is held at satellite locations from 1 pm – 3:30 pm in the Milwaukee County Parks including Grant Park, Warnimont Park and Sheridan Park. We travel and stop for lunch at Noon arriving at selected parks about 1 pm. Please contact emily.brown@ces.uwex.edu for additional carpool information.
