| Feinstone Environmental Award |
We are very happy to announce Wehr Nature
Center and Nature in the Parks were selected as one of four recipients of
the 2004 Feinstone Environmental Award!
In 1976, Sol Feinstone created an environmental awards program at the State University New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) in Syracuse, New York (his alma mater). This award program recognizes significant contributions to protecting the environment, promoting the wise use and management of natural resources, and promoting volunteerism.
The four 2004 honorees were chosen from among conservation nature education centers that have demonstrated a clear commitment to education programs focusing on the natural environment, excellence in programming, service to their communities and in serving as a role model that other centers may emulate. Nominations were received from throughout the United States.
The other recipients included Aullwood Audubon Center in Dayton, Ohio, Prospect Point Audubon Center in Brooklyn, New York and Reedy Creek Nature Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Wehr Nature Center and Nature in the Parks is proud to be in the company of such superb nature education centers!
Wehr Nature Center was chosen for its exceptional natural resource base and its extensive program efforts especially the Nature in the Parks outreach program. Feinstone committee made special reference to Wehr's ability to maintain the quality of programs and outreach while facing severe budget restraints.
Come visit us and experience why Wehr is one of the best in the nation. Our new soils exhibit opens on April 15th so be sure to stop in and see our exhibit!

Please join us! PLANT WATCH AT WEHR A New Program Aimed at Invasive Plants June is Invasive Species Awareness Month. Plant
Watch at Wehr is our way of celebrating Governor Doyle’s Invasive
Species Awareness Month program. Organizations across the state will
be hosting their own events during June to highlight exotic plants
that have become dominant and reduced native species populations.
Many of these plants have become problems in backyards everywhere
and thus are called invasive exotic plants. Plant Watch at Wehr, scheduled for June 16 (see details in the calendar section), will offer a presentation on the plants you might find in your yard, including some new invasive plants to look for, and how to manage them. We’ll also spend some time pulling and bagging the plants so they can be added to our special invasive species compost pile. While we’re outside, you can ask all your questions about Garlic Mustard and other invasive plants. We’ll also identify samples from your yard, let you know if they are invasive, and provide advice on managing them.
