Wehr Nature Center
The Center's 220 acres are located within the 660-acre Whitnall
Park in southwestern Milwaukee County.
Wehr is the only nature center located in the southern half of
Milwaukee
County
. Over five miles of trails loop through and link the Center's natural
communities. Interpretive
signs introduce self-guided visitors to the homes and habitats of
Wisconsin
wildlife. Study sites along the trails allow guided groups to investigate
the natural world face-to-face.
Additional interpretive environmental education programming and
exhibits are offered within the Visitor Center as well as in the outdoor
amphitheater.

Facilities:
- Twenty acre Mallard Lake with three islands, completed in 1936 by
the Civilian Conservation Corps
- Wetlands that include sedge meadow, shrub carr and floodplain
forest, accessible via a 1,700 foot boardwalk, featuring two piers and
a bird blind
- Restored Oak Savanna and Prairie
- Maple and Oak Woodlands
- Over five miles of looping trails and interpretive signage

- Fosters an environmental awareness and conservation ethic in
visitors of all ages through interactions with its restored habitats
and education programming
- Provides the public and Milwaukee County valuable information and
resources on current local and global environmental issues
- Enables school groups to interact with and learn more about nature
and conservation throughout the County Park System through its Nature
in the Parks outreach programming
